The demo for Battlefield 2 has been announced according to PlanetBattlefield, it will feature one map and be made available around mid June. This is a little disappointing seeing as the game is scheduled for official release on June 23rd, an earlier preview and testing would have been more than welcome I guess Dice will be leaving that to the beta testers.

In the meantime Electronic Arts has released via their newsletter with more screenshots and another gameplay video showcasing their upcoming blockbuster Worthplaying has them here: http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=25108

Total Battlefield 2 has a hands-on review with lots of screenies and are already praising this as the game of the year.

Its been around for a while now and its got close to 1.5 million users but somehow alot of people still don’t know about an instant messenger made just for gamers called Xfire. The handy little tool keeps track of your buddies and all gamers and lets you know when, where and what they are playing. You can use it just to chat or to exchange files or even as a server browser for almost all the online games out there (over 275) whether it’s a first person shooter game (FPS), real time strategy game (RTS) or a role playing game (RPG). Xfire will also provide you with up to date patches, demos, and trailers for games. An interesting feature of Xfire is the automatic statistics profile which details the games a player is spending his time on for how long and then placing them on a player profile page that can be then be pasted to any website.

Now that Al Pacino has signed on to lend his voice acting skills, (hehe cause u cant do Scarface like Pacino can) the planned third person shooter from Vivendi Games, Scarface, reportedly similar in gameplay to Grand Theft Auto has gained that much more credibility. GameDAILY BIZ also reports that joining Pacino will be; Jay Mohr (The Last Comic Standing), Cheech Marin- (Cheech & Chong), James Woods- (Salvador / Videodrome), and general Hollywood movie bad guys Miguel Sandoval, Robert Davi, Michael Rappaport and Michael York.

It gets better, it is also reported that in the upcoming fps zombie/mutant game shipping soon Area 51 from Midway Games, David Duchovny (X-Files) will be starring as the hero and Marilyn Manson as the anti hero.

This trend is far from over…

Rave reviews are flowing all over for Brothers in Arms the latest WWII epic game from Ubisoft and Gearbox as this FPS crosses elements of the Rainbow Six series and its tactics with a straight forward shooter in the veins of Medal of Honor or Call of Duty. This game is all about flanking and ordering via set keys your teammates into position. Online gameplay sees (concentrate now) each player controls his squad (3 other soldiers) for a maximum of 4 per side making 16 on the field at a time (told ya to focus). Maps, sound, graphics are all to drool for.

Could there be a game in development that has a bigger buzz around it right now than Battlefield 2? I think not, Electronic Arts appears to be planning a blockbuster of a genre defining game here; combining elements of teamplay through a coordination of a RTS (Real Time Strategy) type of game and a FPS (First Person Shooter) type of videogame whose results shall be settled on the playing field of the internet in the online arena.
